The most expensive components of your vehicle are the engine and transmission. Your cooling system is designed to protect these components and prevent them from overheating or causing excessive temperatures.

It is important to service your cooling system once every 50,000 kms or 5 years, whichever comes first. If you spot leaks or worn parts, it’s best to get your vehicle in for an assessment, sooner than later.

Good indicators that your vehicle is experiencing symptoms of a bad cooling system:

  • Low coolant levels
  • High dashboard temperature gauge (pull over before the vehicle overheats)
  • Visible bright-green, sweet-smelling stain/coolant leak.
  • White steam rising from under your hood: your engine is overheating.
  • White smoke from your tailpipe, your engine is burning coolant. Engine damage may be catastrophic.

If your vehicle is overheating, or experiencing any of the above symptoms, refrain from continuing to drive your vehicle. Pull over safely, roll down your windows, and turn off your engine. Open the hood and let the heat escape, being extremely cautious to avoid removing the radiator cap until it cools down completely. If you have fluid or bottled water, add it to the reservoir, but always follow the manufacturers guidelines to avoid further damage. Park Automotive is only a call away and our experts will help on your path of repair.
