Engine Leaks

Park Automotive Engine Service

Oftentimes, we don’t notice an engine leak until there’s a pool of dark, oily liquid below our vehicle, out of nowhere. This is a good indicator that you have an engine leak.

Oil leaks in vehicles can be very messy and worrisome. There’s no need to panic, Park Automotive is here to help!

Generally, there’s a simple fix for it. However, it’s always nice to know where the leak originates, and that’s where our skilled technicians come into play.

Places Oil Leaks Take Place:

  • Oil Filter Gasket
  • Oil Pump Gasket
  • Oil Pan Gasket
  • Rocker Cover Gasket

Types of Leaks:

  • Brake Fluid Leak: Your car has difficulty stopping or has less braking power than usual.
  • Coolant Leak: Your car takes longer than usual to warm up, or you see steam coming from under your hood whilst or after driving.
  • Power Steering Leak: Hissing sound coming from under your hood.
  • Engine Oil Leak: Pool of oil under your car, or the smell of burning rubber from under the hood of your car.
  • Transmission Fluid Leaking: Smells like burnt oil and may contain a pink or red color.
  • Coolant (Anti-freeze): identifiable if your car has been running hot or overheating.

Reasons for Leaks:

  • Oil Drain Plug: A damaged or worn-out drain plug can cause an oil leak.
  • Oil Filled Cap: Leak takes place when the oil filler cap becomes loose.
  • Valve Gasket:  Valve cover gasket wears down over time, oil leaks from the top of the engine.
  • Too Much Oil: Excessive oil filling, resulting in oil puddle under your car, but the dashboard engine oil light is not flashing.
  • Crankcase Ventilation:  Ventilation is clogged, the engine is over-pressured.
  • Damaged Head Gasket: If the oil seems to be coming from between the engine block and the cylinder head, the gasket is most likely damaged.
  • Crankshaft or Camshaft Seals: Oil is leaking from the gearbox housing indicating a crankshaft engine oil seal leak.
  • Leaking Oil Cooler: Leaks from the front of the engine.
  • Oil Pressure Sensor: Oil Pressure Sensor is made of plastic and with time can crack and cause a leak. Easy, inexpensive fix.
  • Cylinder Head or Engine Block: This can happen when there’s not enough coolant in the cooling system, which causes the coolant to freeze.
