Out of Province (OPI) and AMVIC Inspections
Park Automotive Inspection Service
Out of Province Inspection (OPI)
Park Automotive’s certified technicians are happy to help conduct your OPI on your vehicle.
An Out of Province Inspection ensures your vehicle meets the safety and vehicle equipment standards of Alberta.
The inspection must be conducted in a licensed facility, by a journeyperson technician, licensed by the Vehicle Inspection Program to perform Out of Province Inspections.
A general inspection is a thorough mechanical inspection performed on a vehicle to assess its mechanical condition. The OPI may uncover items that require attention – often allowing owners to address issues before a full-out failure, which can save money and vehicle downtime.
What is included in Park Automotive’s OPI:
- Drive train (engine, transmission, mounts, driveshaft(s)/axles, fluid levels)
- Brake system (fluid condition, lines, hoses, calipers, rotors/discs, drum/shoe setup)
- Steering components (steering rack, tie rods, boots, steering box, links/arms)
- Exhaust system (muffler, resonator, flex section, hangers)
- Suspension components (shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, mounts, torsion rods)
- Cooling system (fluid level/condition, hoses, radiator, fan)
- Lighting system (operation of headlights, brake lights, marker lights, reverse lights, license plate lighting)
- Wheels & tires (noting condition, remaining tread, abnormal wear)
Upon completion of the inspection, Park Automotive will provide you with a full, comprehensive summary of our findings, including photos/video of anything requiring attention.

Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) Inspection
When it comes to purchasing a vehicle in Alberta, Canada, one important aspect that cannot be overlooked is the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) inspection. This inspection is a mandatory requirement that plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety and protecting consumers. In this blog post, we will delve into why the AMVIC inspection is necessary and what is involved in this process.
Why is the AMVIC Inspection Required?
The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) inspection is mandated by the provincial government to ensure that all vehicles on the road meet certain safety and mechanical standards. This initiative is in place to safeguard consumers and other road users from potential hazards that may arise from poorly maintained or unsafe vehicles.
Key Reasons for the AMVIC Inspection:
- Consumer Protection: The AMVIC inspection is primarily designed to protect consumers from purchasing vehicles that may have hidden safety issues or are in poor mechanical condition. By conducting a thorough inspection, potential problems can be identified and rectified before a vehicle is sold.
- Road Safety: Ensuring that vehicles on the road meet specific safety standards is essential for overall road safety. Vehicles that are not roadworthy can pose a significant risk to their occupants and other road users. The AMVIC inspection helps in identifying and addressing potential safety concerns.
- Regulatory Compliance: The Alberta government has implemented regulations to govern the sale and purchase of vehicles within the province. The AMVIC inspection ensures that vehicles comply with these regulations, promoting fairness and transparency in the automotive industry.
What is Involved in the AMVIC Inspection?
The AMVIC inspection is a comprehensive examination of various aspects of a vehicle to ensure it meets safety and regulatory standards. The inspection covers key areas, including but not limited to:
- Mechanical Components: A certified mechanic will assess the vehicle’s mechanical components, including the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and exhaust system. Any issues identified will need to be addressed before the vehicle can pass the inspection.
- Structural Integrity: The inspection includes an examination of the vehicle’s structure to identify any signs of damage or corrosion that could compromise its safety.
- Electrical Systems: The electrical systems, including lights, signals, and wiring, are thoroughly checked to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Emissions and Exhaust: Compliance with emissions standards is verified, and the exhaust system is inspected for leaks or other issues.
- Safety Features: The presence and functionality of safety features such as airbags, seat belts, and mirrors are confirmed to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.
